Our History

Mile End Basic School's remarkable journey began over a century ago, making it one of the oldest educational institutions in the Mile End District of St. Ann parish. Founded with a vision to provide quality education to the children of this vibrant Jamaican community, the school has weathered many changes while maintaining its commitment to excellence and Christian values. In its early years, Mile End Basic School moved through various locations within the community, adapting to changing needs and circumstances while never losing sight of its educational mission. Each relocation reflected the school's resilience and the community's unwavering support for quality education. The dedicated founders and early educators understood that a strong educational foundation was essential for the community's children to succeed and thrive. The school's formal establishment in 1973 marked a significant milestone in its long history. This pivotal year saw the institution become more structured and organized, setting the stage for the systematic approach to early childhood education that characterizes Mile End Basic School today. The transition brought new opportunities for growth and development, allowing the school to expand its impact on young lives. Today, Mile End Basic School has found its permanent home in the downstairs of the Mile End New Testament Church of God Church, a location that perfectly embodies the school's motto 'Build with Christ our Architect.' This partnership between education and faith creates a unique environment where academic learning and spiritual growth go hand in hand. The church setting reinforces the Christian values that have always been central to the school's identity. With twenty-five students and five dedicated staff members, Mile End Basic School continues to honor its rich legacy while embracing modern educational practices. Under the leadership of Principal Mitsie Phillips-Richards and the guidance of Board Chairperson Tamara Pink-Grant, the school remains committed to its founding principles while preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century. This perfect balance of tradition and innovation ensures that Mile End Basic School will continue to serve its community for generations to come.
